ys03 < Ys04 X's Disease > ys05

A story, written for Christopher Stroth, a contributor and friend of Yellow Snow, which follows the unusual affliction of an explorer returned from the tropics in the early Twentieth century. Of the "New Gothic" style, it was very well received in it's initial limited release. What follows is the introduction to X's Disease. October 1993. Available.

This is a partial chronicle of a particularly puzzling case admitted to our care in 1901. The patient was known to have traveled extensively below the equator and as a result, at the time, we believed him to be suffering from some sort of tropical illness. After exhaustive testing and observation we were unable to identify his affliction with any of the known tropical maladies. We expanded our horizons in the pursuit of cases of similar illness, but had no success. He remained symptomatic, to one degree or other, during the entirety of his stay under our care.

Here I will set down some of the notable events and episodes in his stay at this facility and perhaps be able to convey the intractability and what I consider to be the unique nature of this affliction.
