The Apiary-Descent. This recording begain as a commission for a companion piece to Charles Browning's "What are you afraid of?" installation, which dealt mainly with concepts surrounding the tension between human beings and nature and the notion that humans have distanced themselves from the other animals and from the natural world. Themes of Norse mythology are also present on the CD, in track titles and references to Odin in the liner notes. The music is innately haunting, tender, earthy - elegant. From what I've seen of Charles Browning's works, the music adeptly reflects his themes and textures, especially the spirituality of moist earth and of the lonely agony that comes from being disconnected from one's surroundings.
