All The Stars Burning Bright (The Foundry/Hypnos)
INTERGALACTIC ATMOSPHERES: The first track, "A Dream Of Summer Stars," introduces the listener to the wide-eyed child Michael Bentley (eM, The Foundry) once was, gazing up at the vast cosmos; the music twinkles with wonder and delight, though a sliver of pensiveness is never far off. As Michael grew older, the mysteries of the sky were molded by the intimations of science (NASA recordings form a strange kind of smooth edged, blip oriented language on "Parsecs") and the whim of fantasists (Brian Aldiss and H.P. Lovecraft, in particular). The brooding black void of "Burning Bright" suggests motion, the kinetic activity of something (beings, Lovecraftian anomalies... space itself?) never revealed. "Between" rides chilly, interstellar currents along icy rails to vacant outposts within the void. Compelling work, indeed!
