Intransitive Review 4/98 (e-zine)

rhomb "Hidden Topographies" CD (Foundry, US)

...(this) disc flirt(s) with the New Age side of ambient music, which is better, I suppose, than the techno side that was so popular not too long ago. ...rhomb is the new psuedonym of Michael Bentley, formerly known as eM and the Apiary. This disc is in a similar minmal package, a black envelope with a sticker to seal it shut, very classy. The music is a nice mix of his two styles; benign, melodic New Age and concrete plunking around. The result is easy to fall asleep to, with a few scattered atonal sections that stand out. I, of course, prefer the less musical moments, but the disc moves around its many ideas nicely, flowing, ebbing and breaking off into its various tangents. (Howard Stelzer)
