from Jean-Francois Fecteau, host of Le Vestibule on CFOU
89.1 FM University of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec As always, we can never expect what we will be hearing when we are exposed
to a new eM album. The E.P. "Motor Sessions" is a very interesting
release both musically and conceptually. The idea developped around the
"symbol" of the motors is expressed in a very dense and somehow
mechanized way. Men have always tried to conquer distances and space to
somehow fill the void find inside. Instead of focusing on our spiritual
side and explore our divine powers, we, through ages, tried to fit and resemble
our physical environment, and we came to treat each other as machines, and
objects, limiting ourselves in action, thoughts, and space. And speaking
of space, the album "Mote" is for me an evokation of spaces through
metaphysical atmospheres rendered by abstraction and subtility found in
the structures, sonorities and melodies. "Mote" defines the space
between the stare into awareness and the closure of the eyes beyond subconsciousness.
There is a vastitude that emanates from the textured waves of sounds, and
the flowing frequencies, we almost feel the vertigo as we find ourselves
suspended above empty space, trying to reach the other side that lays ahead
in a thick mist. At other times, we are submerged in an oceanic surrounding,
floating through dreamscapes ambiences, reaching for the infinite in galactic
wanderings... every inflection, every intonation, every reverberation, are
carefully placed to trace the contour, to establish the mood, to graze the
sensibility, to mark the pace, to settle a unique universe that we are invited
to take possession and make it our own. |
