mp3/3" CD

I love little gems that are off the beaten musical path. This 3" CD on the Fällt label, also available for the time being as an MP3 file, has only 15 minutes of music, conveniently divided into 15 tracks of exactly one minute each. Ah, but while it lasts, it is so interesting. I'm reminded a lot of Biosphere, in the way it paints a set of sonic pictures through the use of mostly abstract noise. Sometimes unsettling, sometimes relaxing, always entertaining, the music simply presents several little nuggets. Though each segues directly into the next, they are not unlike unrelated thoughts. When one stops, it is just gone, and the next is off and running, without a break. It's like peering into another's thoughts, as they rapidly shift in the stream of consciousness. If it were longer, it would be the perfect accompaniment to a James Joyce novel. It would be difficult to describe individual tracks in detail, and I'm not sure it would help. This atmospheric abstract disc will mean many different things to different listeners, and even those perceptions will likely change over time, and according to one's mood. Consider it an amorphous slice of ambient life to be experienced. Highly recommended.
