eM - All the Stars Burning Bright (The Foundry - 2001)

All the Stars Burning Bright is an exploration of the universe through sound, an experiment designed by eM to venture beyond. One thing that can be said about the music being released through the Hypnos Recordings/The Foundry cooperative is that the music is intriguing, and that's certainly the case with eM's All the Stars Burning Bright. eM, the pseudonym for The Foundry founder Michael Bentley, has created an excellent recording with All the Stars Burning Bright and one that certainly endures. While elements of this recording are reminiscent of Brian Eno's Apollo recording, it's quite different. One of the similarities is that, while Eno created music to compliment a NASA film, eM has actually used NASA recordings and heavily processed them to create his evocative atmospheres. eM's All the Stars Burning Bright is a true ambient recording; while the work may be programmatic and based around exploring the universe, it's still a very ambient recording. eM has quite an expansive catalog, and this recording is certainly recommend as a starting point for anybody who is not familiar with his work.
