v.stevenson
http://homepage.mac.com/autocoil/
http://www.tiln.org (under stevenson, v.)

v.stevenson: the v is for vance and he likes it lower case. The stevenson is the same as his dad, but his dad's is capital and v's is lowercase. v. (as in v.stevenson) once made music that went boom-bap and those who listened had there heads nod without realizing that they were nodding. He then went into a small cave and came out with far to many samples of water and contact mics that sent the audience into orgasmic joy with his exploration of tiny sounds made big and naked for all the world to see. Richard Teitlebaulm, of MEV, gave him some good advice and a pat on the back, Richard also spent some time jamming on the keys of a piano while v. rambled on a nord rack... spectacular stuff....During this time v.stevenson encountered n.kra and they stole each other's names, but got along quite well, despite brawls over flushing after every use. . . v.stevenson then pleaded to open for Oval, and it was so. Then, he was invited to bring his G3 to play in a hall for Dat Politics. . .they thought he was quite nice. . .and wowed by his inability to speak French. Then, some other guys with laptops showed up and said, "play before us young new comer" and it was so. v.stevenson woke his Mac from, the power conserving, 'sleep' mode to make strange and compelling sounds before the likes of TV Pow and Stillupstepya. .. man what a site. He then wasted web space with info and pictures... Then others realized his strange and unique talent and asked him to travel with his noise making machines...which he did, and some times frank (la plague) came too. Only one thing has stayed the same: v.'s commitment to the lower case name and a love of controlled improvisation in the Max/MSP environment. Watch out.

N.KRA
http://homepage.mac.com/n_kra

n.kr is n.kra a.k.a. nick krapels of the mid-hudson valley power electronics scene headed by v.stevenson and la plage he plays prepared bass VI, mixer, powerbook g4, and occassionally whips out the old Toshiba Satellite for fun freeware times.

n.kr has been exploring what it means to compose sounds with electronics for almost four years now, though only recently (about one year) has really found a consistent voice. his performance involves two essential elements of electronic audio manipulation: improvisation and cohesiveness. God knows where the cohesiveness comes from (except his own heart) but he has performed to receptive audiences in the mid-Hudson Valley (including once opening for the DAT Politics) for the past two years.

eM

http://www.tiln.org (under eM)

Michael Bentley, founder of The Foundry label, has recorded under several names [eM, The Apiary and Rhomb (with Nathan Kreisberg)] and has released a number of EPs and CDs of electronic and experimental music. Recent projects include releases for the Irish label Fallt (as eM) as part of the invalidObject series; for Archipelago, a loose association of Bay Area artists (EPs as eM and Rhomb), inclusion on a CD compilation accompanying the latest issue of MIT Press' Computer Music Journal (one track as eM), and a suite of short pieces released through .tiln website (as eM). Future plans include new full length CDs under both the eM and Apiary monickers, due this summer, as well as collaborations with several members of the Archipelago.

Bentley has composed and recorded electronic music sporadically for a number of years, often collaborating with long time friend Nathan Kreisberg (most recently as Rhomb). Interest in other musical forms, most notably folk music of the British Isles (especially that of Scotland), has lead to performances at music/dance festivals in Norway and California, as well as performing and recording gigs on both east and west coasts of the US. The Foundry, originally begun (in 1985) as an umbrella for publishing chapbooks, emerged as an outlet for Bentley's musical endeavours in 1995. After several cassette releases the first Foundry CDs were issued in 1997. The Foundry catalogue has garnered critical praise and airplay throughout Europe, Australia, the US and Canada.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MINOTAUR
website coming soon: www.littlefurythings.com
email: natbot@hotmail.com

A long time ago a woman with golden hair gave birth to a boy that lived a long and fruitful life (damian). Next door was vacant. But in the next house over lived a magician that made potions from rubble and refuse (nat). He was a phony and never made any money. His son, while walking in an open plain, was killed by a meteor (leo).... thus was born The Christian Science Minotaur!

LA PLAGE
http://www.twingles.com/transmission/

is Frank Musarra, an integrated arts student from Bard College. He has studied under many famous old people such as Richard Teitelbaum, David Behrman, Maryanne Amacher, and most notably, Mr. T, who encouraged Frank to "pity the fool" that tries to convince him to "quit with all the beats." Frank lives in two places, Upstate NY and Cleveland Ohio and has thus played lots of shows in the East and Middle-East, often given the opportunity to open for all of your favorite 18 to 21 year old "IDM" celebrities. Frank has been doing this kinda stuff on his friends computers since he was 14 and has recorded under such names as "The Crack Factory," "The Hearts of Darknesses" and "MC Uncle Jesse Katsopolis and DJ Tanner." Those who are unfamiliar with these releases might remember his lauded female background vocal appearance on Positive K's call & response styled party hit, "I Gotta Man."

In other news, Frank has a crazy ex-girlfriend who goes to Syracuse and he hopes that she will not find out that he will be appearing at this show. Don't tell her, he's serious. Lastly, Frank would like to take this moment to apologize to the hippie-raver girl that ran out of his show at Vassar College last week, proclaiming that his music was "disrupting her soul."

SCOTT ALLISON

I am a graphic designer, now working in the new media field, have been working professionally for about 5 years. did alot of video instillation stuff when I was in school, thus leading into my interest in this sort ofthing. I track, meaning I sequence my arrangements with a tracker. I usemostly macintosh programs for creating all my sound files, then arrange themin buzz. Right now my stuff is pretty gritty and nosiey, but that islargerly due to the limited amount of time I have had to learn tracking.Spent the last two years just making sounds, hasnt till my friend jessie, herecords under the name o9 taught me how to use buzz, that I am now able tosequence stuff. I am interested in the organisation of sounds, much in the same way one would think about organizing visual information, sometimes structred other times totally random.

(TWINE)

http://www.komplott.com
http://www.bip-hop.com

twine was started in dec of 1998, by greg malcolm and chad mossholder. chad lives in boulder CO and works as a sound designer for a video game company, he does performances there. greg malcolm is based in cleveland OH, and works as a digital audio engineer, and does performances in that region. both greg and chad collaborate closely on studio projects, they have a kind of post-modern digital/internet age working relationship. the twinesound is a structure meets noise vs melody sound, always morphing into something new...glitch beats collaspe into warm swarms of static, long atmospheric drones become abstract soundscapes where cold dark ambience and stark.

in 2000 twine won the cleveland freetimes award for best act in the electronic genre, and their debut album :reference: was chosen as the #2 album of the year. twine was again nominated for the same award in 2001. twine have performed all over the country and recently internationally as well, performing with such renown acts as; thomas brinkmann, oval, mouse on mars, richard devine, chicago underground duo, main, francisco lopez, the boxtop ensamble, while and at everything from outdoor festivals, art galleries, academic shows to chill-rooms @ rave type events.

twine as a studio entity has recently released a 12" on chicago based Hefty records (http://heftyrecords.com), and are looking forward to a full-length release on hefty late spring/early summer. twine also has an upcoming LP release on swedish label Komplott(http://www.komplott.com) entitled :circulation: twine will have two new tracks featured on french label, bip-hop's,(http://www.bip-hop.com/):bip-hop generation4: and a full-length on bip-hop late summer/early fall, and a potential european tour. twine have also released an artist series loop cd for sonic foundry's ACID music sequencingprogram... http://www.sonicfoundry.com/Loop_Libraries/ShowLoop.asp?PID=376 and are working on the next generation 24 bit sound library for sonic foundry.

is it microsound, ambient, IDM...or all?

(SATELLITE FOOTPRINTSHOP)
http://medien.akbild.ac.at/SFPS/

in favour of a selfmadesuperstar popvision
artsy, catchy, cool , as usual

heartbeat reader
star fleet technical order

used to instananeously read the individual or collective
heartbeats of one or a group of intelligent life forms.

what is it, that makes the music of satellite footprintshop
appealing to any kind of audience?
that«s only one of many questions arising when dealing with
this supergroup. aware of possible missunderstandings,
caused his notorious LSS (lead-singer-syndrom), SFPS
frontman chris is still unwilling to take back his infamous
statement "we have come to last!" given during this years
ars electronica. their performances or better exhilerating
stage experiences are only small steps towards their
creation of an universe, where single mindedness and boredom
get killed before known.

art world, first world and vice versa. they really know how
to deal with these matters
