FOUNDRYEPSERIES The EP (extended play) format has presented some of my most rewarding listening experiences over the years. Somewhere between the single and the LP (long play) in length and scope, the EP allows ideas to be explored in some depth, but also benefits from a focus brought about by brevity. Where many albums suffer from too few ideas spread out over too many minutes, the EP allows the artist to concentrate on developing a small set of concepts without feeling the need to extend them beyond their limits. In literature the short story has the same characteristics, bringing an elegance and economy that the novel so often lacks. My feeling is that this form has not been appreciated as fully as it should be by both listeners and sound artists, and so I am introducing the FOUNDRY EP SERIES as way to help remedy this situation. I have been working with a variety of artists organizing a series of EP releases. These CDs, somewhere between 15-30 minutes (and available at a reasonable price!), will present new work from a variety of artists, allowing listeners to sample sounds both familiar and unfamiliar.
